HPPE stands for High Performance Polyethylene, a state-of-the-art material that has a very high tensile strength. By weight, HPPE is 10 to 12 times stronger than steel, making it an ideal fibre for making cut resistant gloves. The fibre is also extremely abrasive resistant, highly flexible and can quickly absorb, disperse and dissipate body heat. In effect, gloves made from this material will feel much cooler than those made from other materials.
In the long run, durability and performance are what make RONCO DEFENSOR gloves vey cost effective; however, comfort and dexterity are the most obvious benefits that users appreciate. Cool all-day wear ensures that a wearer never ends up sacrificing safety for comfort.
NOTE: Gloves made with HPPE are "cut resistant", not cut proof.

RONCO DEFENSOR 3 and 5 gloves are entirely cut resistant. These gloves are made with a High Performance Polyethylene (HPPE) liner and a water based PU coating on the palm and fingers. While the HPPE provides cut resistance to the whole hand (front and back), the PU coating provides grip and extra protection to the palm.
Both of these glove models are excellent choices for industrial applications involving hand held knives and blades. While the DEFENSOR 3 is medium duty, the DEFENSOR 5 is for heavy duty non-food applications.
Please be sure to note that these types of gloves are cut resistant and not cut proof. Their use is not recommended with moving or serrated blades.

Some RONCO industrial gloves have a hammer shield logo with numbers printed on the back. These are known as CE mechanical ratings that indicate the gloves have been tested for their levels of resistance to abrasion, cut, tear and puncture using the European Standard EN388. CE stands for Conformité Européenne, meaning European Conformity.

Chemical resistance in a glove is twofold: firstly, the material must resist various types of chemicals; secondly, the gloves must not have any pinholes or ruptures that will allow permeation. Only gloves that are scientifically tested to meet both of these conditions are technically rated as chemical resistant gloves. There are, however, gloves that do not meet both criteria but that are still sound for use with light chemical splash action or light dry chemicals. Ask a RONCO product specialist for more details.
Most manufacturers are hesitant to technically rate a glove as both cut- and chemical-resistant. It is more common to find a cut-resistant glove with a chemical resistant coating (full coat or palm coat) such as nitrile.
RONCO DEFENSOR 2 is a cut-resistant glove made with aramid fibres and a nitrile palm coating. We also offer double dipped PVC gloves and neoprene gloves which are chemical but not cut resistant.

The elastics in bouffant caps are often made with latex, a material that can cause mild to servere allergic reactions in some individuals. To guard against this risk, RONCO now manufactures some of our non-woven items with elastics made from lycra rather than latex. A RONCO B2 bouffant cap is styled traditionally with a single elastic headband. A RONCO Cova-Cap is pleated with a double elastic, making it an innovative multi-use product. Take it off your head, pull two parallel sides, and it springs back to pleated form for easy storage until breaktime is over! Both RONCO bouffant styles are available in an array of colours and sizes, making them ideal for use in HACCP compliant environments.

RONCO leather gloves are made from full grain leather and from three grades of split cow leather. Full Grain Leather has not been altered beyond hair removal. Made from the outer part of the hide, it retains its original texture and markings.
Split Leather is made from the lower (inner or flesh side) layers of a hide that have been split away from the upper, or grain, layers.

Personal protective products are ever-evolving. RONCO stays on the latest material and technology trends to deliver the best protection on the market. RONCO unsupported gloves are manufactured by dipping a mold directly into a material, such as latex, to produce the glove.
These unsupported gloves can remain unlined or they can be flocklined by turning them inside out while still wet and painting them with cotton lining or dipping them into a vat of cotton. The flocklining eases donning of the glove, similar to the use of powder in disposable glove manufacturing.
Supported gloves are manufactured by dipping a cotton glove or liner into a vat of protective coating such as nitrile, latex, neoprene, or PVC.

Manufacturers produce gloves with different cuff lengths and types in order to satisfy the different protective needs of end users. Gloves with slip on cuffs are easy to don but do not provide any protection to the arm. Longer cuffs, such as the safety and gauntlet cuffs, are better for applications where the hands will be immersed in a liquid or solution or will come into contact with a substance that will require arm protection.

AQL stands for Acceptable Quality Level and is measured based on international standards. There is an AQL for: dimensions; major defects, which are visible to the eye, such as tears, stains, and dirt; minor defects such as excessive powder; and water-tight test - pinholes, which are very small and are sometimes invisible to the eye.
What is the difference between medical examination and industrial grade gloves?
Examination grade gloves must be of a higher quality than industrial grade gloves. The AQL for pinholes for medical gloves is 1.5, whereas for industrial gloves, the AQL for pinholes ranges from 2.5 to 6.

Powder is used to make donning the disposable glove easier. Powder-free gloves are manufactured inside out and then dipped in a silicone-type coating to make the inner surface of the glove smoother and more slippery, thereby making the glove easier to don. Another method of manufacturing powder free gloves involves chlorinating them.
Each of these choices often depends on user-preference, or the application under which the glove is being used. |
